Photoblog Redesign
I’ve been in such a design slump lately, so yesterday I redesigned my photoblog to get my brain functioning again. I managed to redesign it and develop it within a few hours yesterday and it’s already online.
It’s very different from the previous design (and a bit cleaner I think). I’ve gone for a darker style, particularly around the photo since I find (not quite) black works best with most of my photography as opposed to the previous white I had. I’ve also added some javascript to hide the photo details and other information below the photo.

Unfortunately, I’m not very familiar with javascript and it was one of the first times I’ve really used it to such an extent. I’ve tested it as much as I can (in Firefox 2.0.0.11, Opera 9.24, Safari (Windows beta 3.0.4) and Internet Explorer 6). It works in all of them, and seems to run best in Firefox and Opera, Internet Explorer then Safari. It seems Safari has issues with the javascript but it’s still usable. This could be because it’s beta though so I’d appreciate it if someone on a Mac can check out how the javascript runs for them.
There is a fix that needs to be made in the CSS for Internet Explorer 6 but it isn’t major so I’m not going to rush. I’ve not seen in it IE7 yet so it may have the same problem. You just never know any more with those two browsers.
And since I was redesigning anyway, I upgraded my Pixelpost installation (which broke). And while I was redesigning, I removed some things I had previously and added a new textual Archives page (below).

I also added a Comment Stats page (below) which displays the 5 most commented photos and the top 20 commenters.

And last but not least, I’ve finally burnt my feed with Feedburner so I can keep track of my subscribers.

Looks awesome!
Only thing is, when you get to the last image and click next, it keeps showing the same one instead of going back to the first.
Thanks Mike.
Yeah, I realise. I don’t believe there is much I can do about that unless I use the standard previous/next template tags for Pixelpost (which means I’ll lose the titles) which will eliminate a previous link completely on the last image. I will have to look into it though. :)
It’s no biggie. I quite like the design too.
Speaking of which, when is your site’s new look coming out? I’m really looking forward to it!
:)
It looks great, I like how the photo can stand out without any distractions either side. The RSS leafs are awesome too :)
It looks really great! Nice work!!
Mike: I have no idea to be honest. I’ve been busy and in a bit of pain with a persistent injury but I hope to have something soon. It’s very much overdue!
Mike R & MikeDiesel: Thanks guys. :)
