I just took a big leap!
Well, I have finally upgraded my WordPress version. I’m now up-to-date with the latest (WordPress 2.3.2) and believe it or not, it was a jump from 2.1.3. I have been fairly slack with upgrades. I always have, though now I will be keeping up to date even if it is time consuming and I don’t have that much of it.
Also, as silly as it may sound, I have been using WordPress for over 2 years now and had never, ever done a manual upgrade before. It was indeed my first time ever. I suppose in the past it has always been daunting and was worried I would break it but amazingly enough, I didn’t break anything, all the plugins work etc.
I also cleaned up my plugins. I upgraded all of them (the ones that needed it, which was most of them) and got rid of the ones I don’t use anymore (with the exception of a couple that I may be using when I redesign).
Anyway, just a heads up that I did upgrade. I don’t think there are any problems, but if you come across anything, drop me a line and let me know, please.
Looking good! I myself don’t like the idea of upgrading something as important as your blog - but it looks like you pulled it off with flying colors.
Cheers,

I’m scared! I didn’t realise you were behind me on upgrades, but I am really worried! I’ll be setting up a local version of WordPress before I go anywhere with an upgrade of the live site!
I’m behind with my upgrades on akamike, but I upgraded Sausage Roll on Friday which went pretty smoothly apart from me forgetting to include something which broke the index page for a couple of mins. I’ll get akamike upgraded soon. :)
David: It is scary. The thought that you could break your site or lose everything isn’t very nice. Thats why backing up is a vital part of any update. Unfortunately, upgrading WordPress is a necessary evil due to security updates etc.
Phil: Well, I hope when you do upgrade, that it all goes smoothly!
Mike: Good to hear it went smoothly. I hope it goes the same way with akamike!
Hi Nyssa, I checked around a bit and I don’t think something’s broken here. I guess everything went smoothly!
Upgrading is always a frightening experience, indeed, hopefully in the future WordPress will have this auto-update feature that’s completely safe…
I’m curious about which plugins you use for your site? I’m terribly fond of your download setup ;)
You should check out Wordpress Automatic Update plugin. I hate to upgrade all my wordpress sites too and up until lately it had seemed like every other day we needed to upgrade to a new version. I was skeptical about the WPAU plugin myself but after trying it I installed it on all of my WP’s.
Brad: Yeah, I’ve already tried it and it didn’t work (errors and such). I used to use Instant Upgrade but when I used it, while it did work, it didn’t do it properly. I found it more straight forward just doing it myself, only more time consuming.
It might work now though that I’ve upgraded and everything is a little more fresh but I’m not sure. :)
