Welcome to my redesign - okay, I'm kidding. This is a temporary "interval" theme. It didn't take too long. I am still redesigning but mean while, I'm putting this up. Why? I have some other projects I need to get stuck into, which reduces my time a little. I'd also like to contemplate my redesign a bit as I'm currently unsure about its direction. To understand more and the reasons behind my interval theme, read I haven't redesigned, but stay tuned!

What is and isn’t important

Working on my redesign has become a nightmare for me. So far I’ve got 6 variations of designs. The biggest problem for me is figuring out what to include, what not to include. What’s important and what isn’t? I guess the biggest question I face is, how much do I want to include on my website? How personal do I want to go without going too far over the line so it still keeps a professional aura about it? My initial plan for my redesign was to have less emphasis on the blog. This has been thrown out the window, because I realize at the moment, the most important part of my website is in fact my blog, even if I don’t update it quite as often as I wish to.

So, how do you figure out what to include and what not to include? Just over the past couple of days, this has been running through my head and I still haven’t come to a conclusion. I’m sure I will at some point, since I think I have settled on my base design as of today.

And I suppose the smartest thing to do would be to ask my visitors.

What would you miss? What wouldn’t you miss? What has been missing the entire time? What I’m referring to isn’t the design itself but the content. I need to consider what content I will be including to determine what layout structure I will ultimately end up using.  Feel free to throw your thoughts my way.

On a related note, I am considering offering up advertising space with my redesign. I will want to keep the advertising related to my website (design, WordPress etc) and thinking about having half banners  (234×60) and standard text links. They will be site wide with the exception of my portfolio page, which won’t have any sidebar contents (my top pages are actually Downloads, About, Store and Services, with some popular blog posts in between them). So, just a heads up for anyone looking for some advertising spots. If you are interested, feel free to contact me to discuss it.

Don’t worry, Kym. The RSS feed won’t go anywhere, ever… unless my website goes somewhere ;)

In fact, in my redesign, there is more emphasis on subscribing to my feeds and is in a better and more accessible place! :D
