Slow times are now past, and binded!
Recently, and I’m sure people noticed, my site was slow, sometimes not even connecting. I grew tired of it and finally did something about it. I’m currently hosted with Servage and have been for almost two years. I hadn’t any issues with them for the majority of that time until a couple of months ago. My site became so slow, often I would have to click things twice, even three times to get it to go properly.
Tuesday was when I got fairly annoyed with it because my photoblog was even slower than this part of my site. I sent them an email in the morning and I received a reply in FIVE minutes. Yes, only five minutes. They apologized straight away and offered to transfer my account to their new clusters for improved performance. I didn’t think much of it but replied saying I would appreciate it. Within half an hour, my site was down and my account was transfered to a new cluster, with the added notice that my site would be down for up to 24 hours for DNS changes to do their thing.
Everything was back online in the evening of Tuesday (not 24 hours) and amazingly, my site was (and still is) running properly. Fast and loading on every click. But! There is always a but. My main site (where WordPress is hosted) was broken with some errors. I sent in another help ticket and was replied to once again within ten minutes saying to give it a couple more hours for permissions to catch up. Sounded reasonable to me.
I woke up Wednesday morning and the problem was still there, so I replied and let them know it still hadn’t changed. Within twenty minutes, I had a reply saying it was fixed and yes, it was fixed.
That’s why people couldn’t access my website for 24 hours. I was considering changing web hosts, though have reconsidered and have decided to stay with Servage. They have problems occasionally, as do all web hosts, but Servage easily have the best customer service I’ve personally experienced in any area of the internet.
What about this “binded” thing? Well, nothing really, except a side note, that I made a fairly quick design for my photoblog in the style of a binded notebook/sketchbook/book in general. I quite liked the way it turned out, especially for only about 5 hours of work. Mind you, it took about two days just to get the idea in my head. Be sure to have a look at it (and subscribe to the feed - hint hint). I was a little disappointed though. Yesterday I came across a photoblog with a similar idea in the design and I thought “Ahh damn, not so unique for photoblog designs after all!”. Oh well!
It’s a simple and straight forward design (and so it should be considering it’s a photoblog) but I think I may make a few adjustments, mostly to the navigation areas.
Ive had awesome customer service with them too.
:P
Glad it’s all sorted now! Their responses is indeed impressive
Looks great! Very nice shots on your photoblog!
well glad to hear everything is back on track for you… i’m quite happy with Servage too, i’ve only had to contact them once and it was dealt with within an hr :D
Hey there, just been admiring your work. One question tho - with all your skills in wordpress - why use a different system for the photoblog?
Maybe for your redesign you look at the YAPB plugin (which I use)…
Take care.
Thanks for stopping by seriocomic.
To answer your question, I’ve used both and don’t really like WordPress as a photoblog system and prefer PixelPost since it’s made specifically for photoblogging.
