nyssabrowndesign

Welcome to my redesign - okay, I'm kidding. This is a temporary "interval" theme. It didn't take too long. I am still redesigning but mean while, I'm putting this up. Why? I have some other projects I need to get stuck into, which reduces my time a little. I'd also like to contemplate my redesign a bit as I'm currently unsure about its direction. To understand more and the reasons behind my interval theme, read I haven't redesigned, but stay tuned!

For the love of Film

I love movies and film. I can watch almost anything and enjoy it (there are some exceptions of course). I particularly like short films, especially the ones that fit in a lot of emotion into 10 minutes of play. That’s why I’m very excited about deviantART and their launch of the Film gallery today.

This means big things for deviantART and it has now opened it’s doors to an even larger audience, something a lot of people didn’t think could happen considering it’s size already. People weren’t without their reservations though. “deviantART will turn into YouTube” is the main vibe around some people. Fortunately for us that are tired of seeing miscats and low quality artwork over the entire of deviantART’s other galleries, Film is invitation only to keep the quality (and of course, to weed out the copyright infringements etc).

What does deviantART offer for Film viewing?

  • Automatic conversion of any film format
  • High-quality DivX® format
  • h.264
  • Standard flash
  • Full Screen mode
  • Annotations
  • Downloads for iPod and PSP (coming)

I’m sure there’ll be a lot of additions over time!

So, what of the quality of the films that have popped up already? I can say from my own personal experience, these films are of high quality in both film and storyline. And as for animations, they’re right up there with being something you might see kids watching on their TV’s.

If you’re into film, make sure you check out deviantART’s new film gallery. You won’t be disappointed. Below you can find some of my favourites from the gallery so far. Enjoy!

That sounds quite interesting! I’ve never been into deviantArt before because I am nowhere near being an artist, however I may drop by now, especially if the creations are as good as you say already. And if it really takes off, it can only get better.

I completely mis-read it and was about to go into “lolitsyoutube” rant but then I stopped myself and re-read.

I like this idea. Though, I’m not much of a film person (I’ll watch movies but I don’t take much interest into how it was shot, by who, etc), I think the quality control is a great idea. If only something like that could be applied to other galleries…

@Phil: Understandable, there are plenty of people that had nothing at deviantART to interest them, but I’m sure this will be of more interest now! :)

If you get time, watch “Grey”, the one I linked. It’s great, especially with the amount that was fit into such a short time.

@Mike: Hehe, don’t worry, I did the same thing when it was first done for beta testing. But then I saw the invite thing.

The invite thing would be great for quality control. It would be nice applied to other galleries, but I’m sure you could imagine the stink that would kick up over such a thing. And of course, it would probably take a lot away from dA in general.

Still, it would be nice! lol
